I have travelled quite a lot already, but every time I catch myself making the same choices, especially when it comes to accommodations. Basic apartment, room or a hotel with swimming pool: you name it. All cool if you like some peace and quiet, but if you really want to make an adventure of your trip, it may be a little boring.
Last summer was an eye-opener to me. Me and a friend stayed at a little home in the middle of nowhere on Ibiza, together with real Ibicenco’s. It was not an ideal place to stay, but we did sleep underneath a bright sky with many stars (also because we were just too tall for the small Spanish tent and our heads popped out).
So, to all the adventurous people: I hope you can get some inspiration from this post.
Tree house – Lion Sands Game Reserve, South Africa
Who didn’t want to have a tree house when they were younger? This luxurious tree house in Kruger National Park is a dream come true. You will definitely enjoy the African atmosphere in this accommodation, which is located in the North-East of South-Africa. Find more info here.
Glass igloo – Kakslauttanen Arctic Resort, Finland
I have to admit, I don’t like the cold too much, but this seems like the perfect spot to stay the night. How cool (literally) is it to say you have slept in an igloo, surrounded by a winter wonderland? Not to mention the Northern light that will be seen in this area.

Under water – The Manta Resort, Tanzania
If you’re in love with water and sea, you should go to The Manta Resort. You will be surrounded by water in your hotel room, which also means that it’s possible to see the beauty of the Tanzanian sea, without having to dive. The deck is at sea level, so you can enjoy the surroundings of the sea while having a drink, a nap, or a book. This accommodation is not cheap – at all. For one night, you’ll pay around $1500.
