You know that feeling that you need to start eating healthier but it just costs too much time to prepare your meals? Well, I do. With a 9 to 5 job, a social life and a family living on the other side of the country, it’s quite hard to make time for baking, cooking and smoothie making.
Luckily, Albert Heijn understands us busy bees very, very well, because they now also added veggies and herbs to their frozen fruit smoothie boxes! Perfect for people who don’t have enough time (or don’t want to make time) for preparing smoothies. You just put it in the blender, add some liquid and you’re done!
Because I was so excited about this invention, I decided to just try them all and put it to the test: which one is the tastiest?
Smoothie 1: Pumpkin, mango, banana, parsnip
Added: Coconut water
Mango + pumpkin = delicious! I decided to add coconut water and that was a very good choice. You don’t taste the vegetables much, which most people think is a good thing.
Smoothie 2: Banana, kale, mango, lemongrass
Added: Unsweetened almond milk
I’m not sure if I’m a fan of this one. I really like the taste of lemongrass in it, because it gives it a fresh touch. The kale though, I found too predominant.
Smoothie 3: Avocado, banana, mango, pineapple, basil
Added: Fresh pressed orange juice
Yum! This is my favourite one. The avocado and banana makes it very smooth, and the orange juice is for the ones that have a sweet tooth. The basil is subtle and gives the smoothie a special taste.
Smoothie 2: Beet, pineapple, blackberry, ginger
What can I say? It tastes like beet. And I don’t like beet. Only if it’s mixed with many fruits. Maybe if I mixed it with an other liquid, it would have tasted better. But if you fancy beet, the combination of this veggie with pineapple, blackberry and ginger is perfect.
I think I can drink smoothies for two days straight now, but I now know which one I will buy again and which one I didn’t like at all. Especially smoothie 1 & 3 are my favourites, the one with kale is okay, and the beet smoothie I may try with fresh pressed orange juice.
Q: Have you tried the smoothie boxes already? Which one is your favourite?
