I’m living in Amsterdam for almost a year now, and after a lot of shopping sessions I think I can say I already know quite some ‘shopping hotspots’. No Zara’s, H&M’s and Bershka’s, just typical Amsterdam based stores. I decided to split them up, and in this article you’ll find: stores for your home!
Anna + Nina – Kloveniersbrugwal 44 & Gerard Doustraat 94
Anna + Nina started in 2013 and nowadays just belongs to Amsterdam. With two stores selling little treasures they became a big success in the city. Think of jewellery, candles, pillows, mugs, gifts: all qualitative good and original items.
Søstrene Grene – Nieuwendijk 219
Scandinavian interiors are hot and happening, and the success of Søstrene Grene is a perfect example of it. This store, which is located in the city center of Amsterdam near Dam Square, finds its origin in Aarhus, Denmark and was found by two sisters. The products are beautfiul, simple and on trend. And the best thing of it all: it’s not expensive at all. Think about interior accessories like photo frames, decoration items, candle lights and little vases, trays and blankets, just to make your home a little bit more cosy. Must-go if you are in Amsterdam, or in other Dutch cities: Zwolle, Groningen and The Hague also have one. In Europe, there are stores in Denmark, France, Ireland, Iceland, Norway, Spain and Sweden. Booming business!
Sukha – Haarlemmerstraat 110
If you love white interiors, you’ll love the Sukha store. All white everything, with a little touch of black. Sukha sells Dutch designed or produced interior items, like handwritten cards, stylish storage boxes and photo frames.
Hutspot – van Woustraat 4 & Rozengracht 204-210
Maybe Hutspot is a little bit overrated, maybe it is just one of the best stores in Amsterdam. I love shops that combine fashion and interior, because you can just stroll around for a long time and get inspired without buying anything (important one for my wallet). Every once in a while, I plan a weekend day in Amsterdam and just cycle along a few of my favourite stores, and Hutspot is one of them. At Hutspot, you’ll find interior brands that are not too popular, but that only means that the store is flooded by creative and original items.
Het Huysraat – Witte de Withstraat 182 HS
Looking for some design items? Then you must go to ”Het Huysraat”. Here you’ll find design furniture, lighting and accessories from brands like Hay, it’s about RoMi, Muuto, Zuiver and many more. A good one if you want to have a statement piece (or multiple statement pieces) in your home.
